NGCP Halts Maintenance Works Ahead of May 12 Elections to Ensure Uninterrupted Power

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has temporarily suspended all maintenance operations beginning May 5, 2025, as part of nationwide preparations for the upcoming national and local elections on May 12.

In line with the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) contingency plans, the NGCP announced that all non-essential maintenance and construction activities near substations and transmission lines—especially within 300 meters of energized areas—will be paused until May 16.

The goal is to ensure uninterrupted and stable power transmission during the voting period and the subsequent canvassing and proclamation of winners from May 13 to 19.

The NGCP emphasized its coordination with relevant agencies and strict adherence to protocols to guarantee a power interruption-free election.

According to its latest power outlook, the NGCP confirmed there will be sufficient energy supply during the critical election week. Power plant maintenance schedules were also adjusted to secure full capacity during this period.

The grid operator’s 24/7 Overall Command Center will be activated from May 11 through the evening of May 14. Key operational units—including System Operations (SO) and Operations & Maintenance (O&M)—will be fully manned, with personnel strategically stationed at key substations to respond to any line disruptions.

The Power Task Force Elections (PTFE), formed as early as February, continues to lead preparations to ensure grid security and efficiency throughout the electoral process.
