PAL Cancels All GenSan Flights Until June 11

MANILA, Philippines — Responding immediately to an aviation safety lockdown across Southern Mindanao, the country’s flag carrier has suspended its network connections to the region.Philippine Airlines (PAL) has canceled all flights to and from General Santos City until June 11.

The blanket cancellation follows strict runway and airspace restrictions implemented at General Santos International Airport due to the catastrophic magnitude 7.8 Sarangani earthquake that struck earlier that morning.

The flight cancellations were triggered by an emergency directive from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). Regulatory authorities issued an extended Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) that forces a partial closure of the airport until 6:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2026:

Consumer Contingency: Available Rerouting and Refund Protocols

To accommodate thousands of stranded passengers caught in the sudden airspace closure, PAL has rolled out four distinct ticket mitigation options.

Passenger Resolution OptionOperational Action ProtocolFinancial & Logistical Terms
Davao City ReroutingPassengers can choose to reroute their flights via Francisco Bangoy International Airport (Davao).Ground transit from Davao to General Santos must be independently organized by the traveler.
Voluntary RebookingAllows passengers to push their travel dates to a later window once full commercial operations resume. All standard rebooking fees and fare differences are completely waived by the airline.
Full Cash RefundTravelers can cancel their itineraries completely due to the force majeure event.Pulls 100% of the original ticket value back to the customer’s initial mode of payment without penalties.
Travel Credit ConversionConverts the complete ticket value into a flexible digital balance held in a personal travel fund.Keeps the funds valid for future flight bookings across any domestic or international PAL route.

“Apart from ensuring that the airport did not sustain severe damage, our primary concern is the absolute safety of passengers and personnel. We ask for the public’s patience as we prioritize immediate travelers,” CAAP and airline representatives stated, urging non-urgent customers to wait before calling overloaded hotlines.

The multi-day closure of General Santos International Airport shows the scale of the infrastructure damage caused by the Sarangani earthquake. By halting all commercial flights and opening the runways exclusively to military and humanitarian aircraft, the government is focusing entirely on getting rapid medical aid, rescue teams, and survival supplies into General Santos and neighboring provinces. While travelers face temporary delays and must rely on rerouting options through Davao City, these strict aviation safety checks ensure that commercial flights will only return once the infrastructure is completely safe. As aftershocks continue across Mindanao, PAL’s clear refund and rebooking options provide a helpful cushion for thousands of passengers adjusting their travel plans this week.
