Palace Appoints Four New DOE Undersecretaries

The Palace has recently announced the new appointments of four undersecretaries part of the Department of Energy (DOE) who will aid in policy implementation of the energy sector and flagship programs of the current administration.

 

The new Energy Undersecretaries include Giovanni Carlo J. Bacordo, Alessandro O. Sales, Sharon S. Garin, and Felix William “Wimpy” Fuentebella.

 

Fuentebella was a former Representative of Camarines Sur and also served in the previous Duterte administration as the Senior Undersecretary and Spokesperson of the DOE. Garin served as a former Representative of Iloilo and chaired the House Committee on Economic Affairs in the past.

 

Sales were previously part of the Philodrill Corporation as its former Vice President for Exploration and Production. Before the appointment of Sales, he was also approached by Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla to be a technical adviser for an upstream petroleum venture.

 

Bacodoro has previously served as the Philippine Navy’s Chief and graduated from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA). For him, his DOE responsibility will be to ensure the security of the energy installations of the country.

 

A fifth Undersecretary of the DOE is expected to be announced soon. This fifth candidate is Ms. Josefina Patricia “Ina” Magpale-Asirit, who was previously a Commissioner of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and served as the Energy Undersecretary under the Aquino administration.

 

No specified roles for the Energy Undersecretaries are announced yet.

 

Under the Marcos administration, Lotilla previously mentioned the priority for amendments in the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA).
