Earlier this month, the Philippines and Singapore signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) focused on digital cooperation between the two countries. The agreement was signed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Ministry of Communications and Information during President Marcos’ state visit to Singapore.

Through the MoU, the two countries will exchange knowledge, technical expertise, and best practices regarding digital connectivity. According to the DICT, digital cooperation also covers scam calls and short message services (SMS), personal data protection, emerging technologies, digital government, and cybersecurity.

“We are ready to supply you with the necessary talented work, and digital workforce that will be able to service your investments in the country,” noted DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, as the country aims to become a premier investment destination in Asia. The move also aligns with the current administration’s plan of digitalization advancement and the integration of e-governance.

GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon were also present during the President’s state visit along with GCash Board Director Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala. “Working with our counterparts in Singapore gives us more opportunities to push for digitalization in the Philippines as a way to bring much-needed financial services to those who need it the most,” Sazon explained.

“We are also one in efforts to bring more support for tech start-ups while building a greener and more sustainable Philippines. GCash, along with the Globe and Ayala groups will definitely be at the frontline of shaping our aspirations for a truly digital Philippines,” added the GCash executive. Additionally, the DICT affirmed that the Philippines’ continued digitalization will prove to be significant in helping the country’s economic recovery. It continues to push for the aggressive improvement of connectivity across the entire country.
