PH and Australia express interest in deepening trade and investment relations at PATIID

Filipino and Australian representatives express mutual interest in deepening trade and investment relations of their countries in the Philippines – Australia Trade, Investment, and Industry Dialogue (PATIID).

A highlight of the meeting was the promotion of opportunities to deepen trade and investment relationships in sectors such as PPEs, vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing, copper, electric vehicles, agriculture, defense, shipbuilding, renewable energy, education, and development programs in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The Philippines also reiterated its request for Australia to grant market access for fresh Cavendish bananas, lift the anti-dumping measure imposed on the country’s canned pineapples, and consider imports of durian and dragon fruit.
The convening of the 2nd PATIID on 20 April 2021 marked the reactivation of the two countries’ economic incentives and bilateral cooperations after a six-year hiatus.

The event was held as part of a series to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Philippines – Australia diplomatic relations and was led by Trade and Industry Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo and Australia’s Department of Foreign and Trade Deputy Secretary Christopher Langman and featured key representatives business communities.
