According to the World Economic Forum’s 2021 Global Gender Gap Report, the Philippines has made major strides toward having women in power. The report ranks the country second in the Asia-Pacific region and 17th in the world, indicating the Philippines has been encouraging more women to lead “and become something even more.”

Four women have attested to these developments, namely Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank) President Leila Martin (banking), Kimstore Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kim Lato (e-commerce), Etiqa’s head of Strategy and Transformation Gladys Pascual (insurance), and AdSpark’s CEO Gretchen Largoza (digital marketing).

Lato describes her leadership as affirmative, coaching, and democratic as she consistently ensures her subordinates’ communication between managers and the rank and file.

“They bring in ideas based on their real-time, firsthand experience and I share my plans with our kimmunity. Our office culture and environment [are] designed to breed leaders who inspire inclusivity and innovation,” she added.

Furthermore, Pascual states that she values authenticity and diversity as she provides a “psychological safe space” for her team to express ideas and opinions. She also takes pride in the fact that she is one of three women leaders in a male-dominated management committee.

Simultaneously, OFBank’s Martin said that her recent innovations in various digital technologies give her clients more secure financial investment products and services through their smartphones.

“We have onboarded clients from a total of 116 countries and territories already and it is a privilege that we are able to reach out to Filipinos anytime, anywhere utilizing the digital platform,” she added.

Finally, Largoza said that her company’s data management platform and audience targeting inside their 917 Ventures portfolio gives the market new avenues for information gathering and analysis.

“We have a data management platform and audience targeting companies/ventures inside our 917 Ventures portfolio where we are doing proof of concepts that’s pretty exciting because we are giving the market new platforms,” she said.
