According to vaccine czar Carlito Galvez, the country is set to receive around 30 million vaccine doses throughout the remainder of the month and well into the next. This remains vital as the vaccination in some cities is interrupted due to a lack of supply.
Some 16 million jabs will arrive in the country in July while the other 14 million will most likely come in August. The incoming supplies include vaccines donated by Japan and the US along with the jabs procured by private companies.
Galvez further affirmed that 3 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine from the US are expected this month. If all the supplies arrive, the country would have received approximately 47 million doses of vaccines from various manufacturers by end-August.
The vaccination rollout has also been seen to significantly improve as 1.26 million doses were administered during the first five days of July. This is much better in comparison to the 5.46 million doses that were reported throughout the whole month of June, Galvez explained.
Nonetheless, only about 2.9 million individuals have been fully vaccinated equating to less than 3% of the population. As of July 6, the country has reported close to 1.45 million COVID-19 cases and over 25,000 deaths making it one of the worst in Asia.
