PhilHealth Proposes Lower Premium Contributions
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) plans to recommend a reduction in members’ contribution rates to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. This announcement came from PhilHealth president and CEO Emmanuel Rufino Ledesma during a Senate committee hearing.
When Senator Christopher “Bong” Go inquired about the possibility of lowering premium contributions, Ledesma confirmed the intention to recommend this change. “As early as this afternoon, I will convene our team and we will recommend a reduction in the premium rates and contribution rates to President Marcos,” Ledesma stated.
This proposal follows a Senate hearing focused on PhilHealth’s excess funds amounting to P89.9 billion, which have been reverted to the government’s unprogrammed funds. The discussion highlighted the financial health of PhilHealth and the potential benefits of reducing contribution rates for its members.
In other news, President Marcos has been active in addressing various national issues. He has assured the safety of Filipino seafarers in Houthi custody following recent attacks in Israel, ordered government agencies to bring aid to hard-to-reach areas in Rizal, and is seeking a national flood control plan.
