Philippine Startups Raise P2 Billion Through Crowdfunding, Marking a New Era of Capital Formation

Philippine startups have achieved a significant milestone in funding through crowdfunding, raising a total of P2 billion. In 2023 alone, this innovative approach to capital formation saw 146 companies successfully raising P427 million for 1,114 projects. This achievement underscores the growing trend of leveraging crowdfunding as a viable source of alternative funding for businesses, particularly among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

A notable aspect of this success is the involvement of 37 companies that participated in the 2023 Roadshow on Capital Formation for MSMEs and startups. This initiative, backed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), demonstrates the regulator’s support for alternative funding methods and highlights the potential of crowdfunding in the Philippine business landscape.

Furthermore, crowdfunding platforms like Investree Philippines, SeedIn Technology Inc., and Eastern Securities have played a crucial role in facilitating these funding activities. Their contribution has not only enabled startups to access necessary capital but also opened up opportunities for small investors to participate in the growth of promising businesses.
