The Philippines and private firms signed an agreement for AstraZeneca to supply 2.6 million doses of the potential vaccine, set to arrive in May or June of 2021.
The order will supply over a million Filipinos with the vaccine as 2 doses of the vaccine are required per person.
The private firms will pay for the vaccine that will be used for employees in the private sector and donate half of the supply to the Philippine government.
Carlito Galvez, chief implementer of the National Task Force Against COVID-19, said this “will give our people the confidence that we now finally have the chance to beat the virus and win back the lives we lost,”
“Through this show of unity and selflessness, which we refer to as the bayanihan spirit, we are demonstrating to the world that although the pandemic knocked us down, we will rise up and come together as one.” Galvez added.
AstraZeneca has signed supply deals of over 3 billion doses of its experimental vaccine so far, priced at about ₱143 or €2.5 per dose.
