Philippines Eyes Exporting Durian to New Zealand as Bilateral Trade Expands

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. expressed optimism about exporting Philippine durian to New Zealand, as the two countries engage in discussions to make the tropical fruit available there. During a bilateral meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon at the ASEAN Summit, Marcos highlighted that the Philippine Department of Agriculture is collaborating with New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries to facilitate this trade.

Prime Minister Luxon noted that both countries are advancing in various sectors, including trade and security. He mentioned the potential for New Zealand to import Philippine pineapples and for the Philippines to receive New Zealand onions, signaling positive developments in agricultural trade between the two nations.

The Presidential Communications Office reported that ongoing consultations between the respective agricultural agencies are expected to conclude soon, paving the way for these trade exchanges.
