The Philippines has officially lifted its nearly two-year ban on importing domestic and wild birds, including poultry products, from Denmark, the Department of Agriculture (DA) announced on Friday.
Memorandum Order No. 50
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. signed Memorandum Order No. 50 on Tuesday, lifting the temporary import ban that had been imposed in December 2022. The order takes effect immediately, but all import transactions must adhere to the DA’s regulations and guidelines on agricultural food imports.
Reason for the Ban and Its Removal
The ban was initially implemented to safeguard consumers and the local poultry industry after reports of a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreak in Denmark.
The decision to lift the ban followed a report from the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration to the World Organization for Animal Health. The report confirmed that all cases of HPAI in Denmark had been resolved, with no new outbreaks reported since September 12, 2024.
The ban covered various poultry products, including meat, day-old chicks, eggs, and semen.
