The Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA) has lifted its import ban on birds and poultry products from Michigan, USA, following confirmation that the recent avian influenza outbreak has been resolved. DA Secretary Francisco Tiu-Laurel Jr. issued DA Memorandum No. 47, citing a report from US veterinary authorities to the World Organisation for Animal Health confirming no new bird flu cases since July 12, 2024.
The lifting of the ban takes immediate effect, allowing the resumption of imports of poultry meat, day-old chicks, eggs, and other poultry-related products. Tiu-Laurel emphasized that all import transactions must comply with DA regulations on agricultural imports.
The DA had initially imposed the ban in June due to an outbreak of the H5N1 avian influenza subtype in Michigan.
