Philippines Positioned to Lead in Critical Mineral Supply for Clean Energy, Says Marcos

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. highlighted the Philippines’ strategic advantage in supplying critical minerals essential for clean energy during his speech at the 2023 Philippine Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA) ceremony. He emphasized the country’s abundant mineral resources and underscored the need for investments in domestic mineral processing to fully leverage this potential.

As global demand for minerals rises amid the shift to renewable energy, Marcos called for environmentally sustainable mining practices that restore mined lands. He also urged Congress to support the proposed Rationalization of the Mining Fiscal Regime to create a fairer industry framework.

At the event, Marcos presented awards to 13 mining companies recognized for their excellence in safety, environmental management, and community development, in line with the PMIEA’s criteria.
