Philippines to Receive Substantial Amount of Vaccine Doses to be Donated by the US Government

The Philippines is expected to receive somewhere between 800,000 and a million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the coming month. These will be donated by the United States government.

According to Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez, the US is intending to distribute vaccines to its close allies which will be sourced from its supply of 80 million doses.

“It will be either Moderna or AstraZeneca and [would] come from their stockpile which is expected to be given to us by next month,” said Romualdez on Tuesday.

Aside from this, the country could also be the recipient of an additional 500 million jabs as part of the US’s donations to other countries.

“So we’re getting quite a substantial amount of doses or vaccines coming from the United States aside from what we’ve already negotiated,” Romualdez added.

Quite recently, the government was also able to enter into and ensure supply agreements with Moderna and Pfizer for 60 million doses of their vaccines. Additionally, Moderna had committed 50 million doses of its booster shots. While these are still in development, it’s highly likely to be made available by next year.

“So we are in good shape as far as our vaccines are concerned,” asserted Romualdez.
