The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said that 10 million electronic Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) IDs have been issued to Filipinos amid delays in the rollout.
National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Dennis S. Mapa said 10,126,352 ePhil IDs have been claimed at PhilSys registration centers nationwide as of December 19, 2022.
“We launched the ePhil ID just two months ago. Reaching the 10 million mark this fast in the implementation is, indeed, a major milestone,” Mapa said.
“This only shows how ready we Filipinos are for PhilSys as a digital ID. We are overwhelmed and grateful for the huge demand for the ePhil IDs,” he added.
Mapa assured that each person registered to PhilSys will get an allocated physical card. He added that the printing and delivery of the Phil ID card are continuous in partnership with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Philippine Postal Corp.
The ePhil ID will allow the immediate use of PhilSys as valid proof of identity and age, subject to authentication.
According to the PSA, the ePhil ID is a digital ID and will have the same validity and functionality as the physical card. It is a government-issued ID and is being accepted by government agencies and private establishments for transactions requiring proof of identity or age.
“From applying for government services to opening a bank account, we can use our ePhil ID. The PSA, and other government agencies and the private sector partners are ready to accept the ePhil ID,” Mapa said.
