Ramon Ang Recognized as a Hero of Philanthropy by Forbes Asia

San Miguel Corporation’s (SMC) president and CEO, Ramon Ang, has been honored in Forbes Asia’s 2023 list of “Heroes of Philanthropy.” This prestigious list, now in its 17th edition, celebrates 15 philanthropists from the region who have made substantial donations to causes dear to them. Ang’s philanthropic efforts include a donation of P500 million for the construction of schools for underprivileged children in Manila. In addition, his RSA Foundation has personally contributed approximately P150 million to scholarship grants and medical aid.

SMC’s charitable arm, the San Miguel Foundation, has invested around P1 billion in building five schools in the Metro Manila area and contributed P14.8 billion towards COVID-19 relief efforts. Furthermore, SMC has allocated an additional P3 billion for the cleanup of city rivers. Ang’s philosophy emphasizes the importance of empowering a broad spectrum of Filipinos through education and skills, which he believes is crucial for unlocking the country’s potential. This approach is inclusive of not just the youth but also adults in less privileged areas who aspire for better employment opportunities or entrepreneurship.
