The rise of NFTs came with it the rise of NFT artists such as Luis Buenaventura. Buenaventura is a Filipino artist and crypto entrepreneur. He was among the first artists to mint digital art in the country. Additionally, he founded the Cryptopop Art Guild and is considered one of the country’s most successful NFT artists.
His collaboration with Argentinian comic book legend, Jose Delbo, was a milestone as each edition sold for over P22 million on the NIfty Gateway platform.
Buenaventura has also collaborated with Heart Evangelista and the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra’s Rodel Colmenar. Their project earned 17.35 ETH or roughly P3.6 million.
Luis continues to add to his portfolio as he announced on Twitter that he will drop a new crypto pop series on OpenSea. His newest project will feature the characters of the hit Netflix show, Trese, as Buenaventura partners with series co-creator Kajo Baldisimo and guitarist Marco Palinar.
Buenaventura discusses his rise in the digital art scene in an interview with David Celdran. He mentioned that he was simply in the right place at the right time. More specifically, Luis was at a Bitcoin meetup in Sn Fransisco sometime in 2017 where he was approached by a group working on the Ethereum blockchain who saw his artworks on Twitter. The project was known as Curio Cars and according to Buenaventura is “the world’s first NFT art project.”
“They were thinking about using the Ethereum blockchain as a way to symbolize ownership in digital art,” he stated.
Luis advises those wishing to enter the NFT art space to have at least a little knowledge of crypto and to be ready to invest in it. “You don’t have to understand how blockchains work. You don’t have to understand any of that jargon. But you do have to be comfortable enough to at least buy a small amount of cryptocurrency,” he says.
