In Opensignal’s latest report, Filipino mobile users have the worst mobile experience in Southeast Asia.
Their report evaluated mobile experiences in ASEAN with over 30 million in population, The Philippines was deemed last in the category of “core consistent quality”. This was measured by thresholds for lower-performance applications which include web browsing, voice calls, and standard-definition video.
In the area of availability, the Philippines was last with a score of 94%, right behind Indonesia and Thailand.
In the “excellent consistent quality” category, the Philippines was second to last. This category pertains to the number of users test that meets the minimum threshold for consumers to play games, participate in group conference calls, and watch high-definition videos.
In the category of “games experience” and “video experience”, the Philippines received a “poor” rating with 47.7 and 38.8 points respectively.
Poor ratings indicate that mobile users did not have a good experience across all providers even with low-resolution videos. Issues indicated were frequent stalling and very slow loading times.
Vietnam was the top contender in almost all of the categories and is regarded to have the highest “upload speed experience” and “download speed experience” in the region.
“How the overall mobile experience of our users in these countries will evolve will greatly depend on the rate of 5G adoption in each market. Markets, where operators drive a greater proportion of time that users spend with an active 5G connection (5G Availability), will boost the overall experience because 5G [5th generation mobile network] can generate large uplifts in the mobile experience,” said Opensignal.
