Popular integrated resort company Resorts World Manila has announced a strengthened environmental program with the launch of its “I Love Earth” sustainable development initiative. The environmental initiative will include all hotels in its area such as the Hilton, Sheraton, Hotel Okura, Mariott, and Holiday Inn Express along with the Travellers International Hotel Group’s various restaurants and cafes in following its new policies on upcycling, recycling, and proper sourcing of its food items.

The hotels will upcycle used wine bottles into drinking glasses and will be switching to glass bottles instead, as plastic bottles will no longer be allowed in the hotels. Employee uniforms are now also made from hotel linens. Soap residues from the hotel are now being chemically treated and made back into soap bars for local communities, and some plastic wastes are now being transformed into school tables and desks.

Resorts World Manila is also collaborating with the ABS CBN Foundation’s Bantay Baterya project for proper waste management and better material recovery programs. ABS-CBN foundation head for advocacy Ernie Lopez also expresses his enthusiasm for the company’s continued partnership with their foundation. “We would like to have many partners as possible because the more partners we have the more people we can help. The more partners, the better the impact on the environment,” Lopez adds.

The hotels and establishments covered by the “I Love Earth” project also aim to switch to cage-free eggs completely by 2025, apart from currently sourcing more local coffee and chocolates in support of sustainable local communities in the Philippines.

Multi-property vice president of Marriott International Philippines and chairman of the “I Love Earth” council Bruce Winton says he hopes for the initiative to play an important role in the company’s sustainability efforts as it requires the involvement of not just all their employees, but also from their customers as well. “It gave us a chance to really reflect on what’s important as the tourism industry recovers,” Winton adds. The chairman also states “I Love Earth”‘s goal in supporting more local communities, farmers, and fishermen.
