Samsung Developing First NFT-compatible Smart TVs with Nifty Gateway

Prominent tech company Samsung recently is set to add NFT functionality to its smart TVs after announcing its partnership with NFT marketplace Nifty Gateway. The move could potentially introduce the booming industry to a much wider audience as Nifty Gateway’s integration with Samsung will allow owners to “browse, display, and interact with NFTs” on its latest TV product lines such as its QLED and Neo QLED sets.

“Through our partnership with Samsung, one of the global leaders of electronics, together we will expose millions of mainstream users to NFTs,” explained Nifty Gateway co-founder Griffin Cock Foster. “Last year, NFTs had a breakthrough moment specifically for the art industry. Creators and collectors were able to see the power of this technology.”

Samsung’s TVs will tap into the platform’s custodial wallet system, which allows NFT owners to secure their tokens instead of holding them in an external wallet. Through this system, individuals will also be able to purchase NFTs using a credit or debit card as well as cryptocurrency, aside from just using the TV for display tokens. A Nifty Gateway app will likewise be made available for download on Samsung’s The Frame and Micro LED TVs.

“This year, we hope to see continued growth from mainstream consumers by providing for the first time ever a seamless way to buy and collect NFTs. We couldn’t be more excited to have a partner such as Samsung align to our mission,” added Cock Foster. Samsung’s dive into NFTs was first introduced during the CES trade convention earlier in January. The tech giant further affirmed that it will strive for its devices to “optimize the settings for a faithful rendering of the artist’s intention” when displaying NFTs.
