San Miguel Corp. Removes Nearly 88,000 Tons of Silt, Waste from Biñan River

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has successfully cleared 87,899 tons of silt and solid waste from Biñan River, Laguna, under its Better Rivers PH initiative. The cleanup, which began in August 2024, aimed to restore natural river flow, mitigate flooding, and improve water quality.

Major Cleanup Achievement

📌 The 2.3-kilometer stretch from Laguna Lake to Barangay Poblacion was fully cleaned by February 28, 2025.
📌 Most of the waste came from the river mouth, which had been blocking natural water flow.

SMC Chairman & CEO Ramon Ang expressed gratitude for the cooperation of local government units and other partners, urging the public to take part in river conservation efforts.

🗣️ “Taking care of our rivers is not just the responsibility of the government or private sector—it affects us all. We must all do our part.”

Expanding Environmental Efforts

SMC’s Better Rivers PH initiative has already covered 157.29 kilometers of waterways, removing over 1.248 million metric tons of waste as of March 12, 2025.
