San Miguel Foods has announced a partnership with the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to standardize the Nutribun formulation, a staple in government feeding initiatives. This collaboration, solidified by a memorandum of agreement, aims to optimize the nutritional content of Nutribuns distributed to child beneficiaries across the Philippines.
The agreement stipulates that San Miguel Foods, through its subsidiary San Miguel Mills Inc., will finance FNRI’s research efforts. Moreover, the company plans to leverage its extensive production and logistical network to support the government’s Nutribun providers, ensuring a broader and more effective distribution of the nutritious buns.
This initiative is a response to the increasing hunger rates among Filipino families, with recent surveys indicating a rise in involuntary hunger instances. By combining San Miguel Foods’ manufacturing prowess with DOST’s scientific research, the partnership aspires to deliver nourishing and appealing meals to underprivileged children, thus fostering their physical and cognitive development.
