Solar Philippines Nueva Ecija Corp. (SPNEC) is the listed unit of Solar Philippines Power Project Holdings Inc. has mentioned that it is currently working on the planned largest solar farm in the world.

SPNEC said in a disclosure that it intends to acquire a minimum of 2,500 hectares in Bulacan and Nueva Ecija to build solar farms with an aggregate capacity of 4 gigawatts (GW).

The company has already obtained land for its 500-megawatt solar project, “for which the first 50 MW and the transmission for the full 500 MW are under construction.”

SPNEC is setting aside funding from its several fundraising activities to secure lands in the mentioned provinces. This was possible as its parent firm, Solar Philippines, has been combining permits and land for this project since the year 2016 when it applied for its first solar energy service contract with the Department of Energy.

“This clustering of projects in the same area also supports the development of transmission, which would extend over 60 kilometers to connect to NGCP’s (National Grid Corp. of the Philippines) substations that supply the Greater Manila Area,”  says SPNEC.

Mr. Leandro Leviste, Solar Philippines founder, has said that “Over the years, others did not believe these ranchlands far from the grid could be the site for a solar farm. By the end of this year, our planned share issuances should result in the consolidation of ingredients that would enable SPNEC to expand its flagship project to be the world’s largest solar farm,”

When the project is completed, these combined efforts would exceed that of the Bhadla Solar Farm in India.
