Speed Limit Increased on Straight Sections of Skyway Stage 3, NAIAx

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Infrastructure has announced a speed limit increase on straight portions of the NAIA Expressway (NAIAx) and Skyway Stage 3 from 60 kilometers per hour (kph) to 80 kph, following a detailed traffic safety study.

Implementation Dates

  • NAIAx: Speed limit adjustment takes effect on January 15.
  • Skyway Stage 3: Adjustment takes effect on January 20.

Prioritizing Efficiency and Safety

SMC Chairman and CEO Ramon Ang emphasized that the change aims to enhance travel efficiency without compromising safety.
“This change will make travel faster and more efficient for everyone while prioritizing safety,” Ang said.

Curved Sections Unaffected

The speed limit on curved sections of both expressways will remain at 60 kph to prevent accidents due to oversteering or miscalculation.

Enforcement and Monitoring

Traffic patrollers, deputized by the Land Transportation Office (LTO), will use radar speed guns to monitor compliance. Violators will be apprehended at exits, have their licenses confiscated, and be issued temporary operator’s permits.

Ongoing Improvements

Ang highlighted ongoing reconfigurations at NAIAx exit plazas to reduce congestion and improve the driving experience for motorists.

Expressway Overview

  • NAIAx: A 5.4-kilometer elevated expressway connecting the Skyway System to NAIA Terminals 1, 2, and 3, and Entertainment City.
  • Skyway Stage 3: A 17.93-kilometer six-lane elevated expressway linking South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) to North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), from Buendia, Makati to Balintawak, Quezon City.
