Survey Says That Smartphone Most Used Device Among Women

According to a recent survey conducted by the Department of Information Communications Technology (DICT) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that smartphones were among the most used devices among women last 2022.

The Women and ICT Development Index (WIDI) survey had over 26,719 households in the Philippines and discovered that over 84.9% of women aged 15 and over were using their smartphones as information communication technology (ICT) devices.

From the eight devices part of the survey, basic cell phones were at 33.4% and portable computers at 20% were chosen as the most used devices of women.

Aside from this, Smart TVs were noted at 17.9%, tablet computers at 9.4%, desktop computers at 7.8%, and gaming consoles at 1.9%.

In terms of area, Metro Manila was noted with the most smartphone users with over 95.8% of the 3,549 households in the region.

After Metro Manila, Calabarzon follows with 92.1% of the 4,148 households, and Central Luzon with 91.3% of 3,030 households.

The survey also noted that despite the area, both rural and urban residences used smartphones the most compared to other devices last 2022.

The survey respondents totaled over 38,911 women that were both unemployed and employed.

Chief Economist of China Banking Corp., Domini S. BVelasquez mentioned that the survey results showed “good news” since this showed that more Filipinos are using electronic devices in their daily lives.

“Initiatives such as sari-sari stores who use digitalization to search for cheapest sources of their products and MSMEs [micro, small, and medium enterprises] who improve transactions because of online payments, make a difference for both producers/retailers and consumers,” she mentioned.
