A groundbreaking human verification device called The Orb is set to launch across the Philippines this year as part of global efforts to fight online fraud and deepfake-driven identity theft.
Developed by World, a global network focused on personal identity and financial safety, The Orb is designed to verify a person’s humanness and protect digital identities. After successful pilot testing in Bulacan, the device is now set to roll out in high-traffic areas like Gateway Mall in Quezon City and Greenhills in San Juan.
World’s Chief Legal and Privacy Officer Damien Kieran said the rise of deepfake technology has made tools like The Orb increasingly necessary. “Our goal is to make the internet safer for everyone,” he said.
World is collaborating with local cybersecurity organizations including the National Association of Data Protection Officers of the Philippines (NADPOP) and the Philippine Computer Emergency Response Team (PH-CERT) to expand the initiative.
NADPOP president Sam Jacoba said, “Every Filipino deserves to be protected online.” Meanwhile, PH-CERT’s Lito Averia stressed the national importance of cybersecurity, adding, “This is about keeping Filipinos safe from digital threats.”
The device’s broader deployment is expected to enhance trust in digital transactions and give users more confidence in managing their online presence.
