On Tuesday, San Miguel Corp. (SMC) announced that it will begin collecting toll fees from motorists passing through Skyway 3 starting Monday, July 12.
The use of the major infrastructure has been free since it was opened to the public. This amounts to more than ₱246 million in toll waived by SMC. The announcement follows after the firm had secured a toll operating permit and a notice to start collecting toll from the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB).
Additionally, SMC expressed that they will be implementing “lower” toll fees than those that were originally proposed. The final matrix for the rates will be released before Monday.
“We know from experience that times are hard for many, and even a little relief for motorists can go a long way. These toll rates reflect our deferral of the collection of a substantial amount of the cost to build Skyway 3. We also further lowered the rates for those traveling shorter distances,” explained SMC president Ramon Ang.
He added that the fees will also be used to keep the efficient operations and timely maintenance of the major infrastructure.
