According to the Department of Tourism (DOT), it has provided approximately 506,415 displaced tourism with cash assistance amounting to ₱2 billion.
Secretary of Tourism Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said that the DOT was allocated ₱3.1 billion for cash aid to workers in the industry under the Bayanihan 2.
There is a total of 5.7 million workers in the tourism sector, 4.8 million of which were significantly affected by the pandemic.
“Nung February, we were able to include our tourism frontliners sa priority list sa vaccination,” (“In February, we were able to include our tourism frontliners in the vaccination priority list,”) said Romulo-Puyat.
“Naisama na rin ang ibang tourism frontliners. Ang mga nasa restaurants, drivers, media. We are fighting of course na sana all,” (“Other tourism frontliners such as those in restaurants, drivers, and media. We are fighting of course to include everyone,”) she added.
