The country’s first-ever set of train simulators is expected to be revealed to the public by the end of this month, according to the DOTr.

These train simulators are the first-ever in the country and were brought in from Japan last May 2022.

Acquired through a grant worth P565M from the Japanese government, these train simulators will be an integral part of the development and training thrusts of the railway projects of the DOTr.

The Philippine Railways Institute or PRI will be using the simulators to teach and train the operators before they can pilot real trains. The PRI is in charge of making sure that the operators are properly equipped with the skills needed to safely drive and run the trains once ready.

These train simulators can create a realistic environment for future train operators to develop and improve their skills. It can mirror all aspects of operations such as railway systems, train operations, from the passenger stations to the signaling systems, and even door control.

The Philippine Railway Institute is a product of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s Executive Order No. 96 series of 2016 which enacted the first center for training and research for train operators in the Philippines. This center is also in charge of regulating and planning the human resource and development of the training sector of the country.

With the expansion of the railways and railroad system in the Philippines, an influx of train operators is predicted to join the railway sector in the years to come.
