Trump Announces 90-Day Tariff Pause for Most Nations—China Faces Increased 125% Levy

WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump has temporarily scaled back his aggressive tariff strategy, announcing a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs for over 75 countries—excluding China, which will now face even higher duties.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said, “Due to the lack of respect China has shown to global markets, I am raising the tariff on Chinese goods to 125%, effective immediately.”

Meanwhile, he introduced a reduced 10% baseline tariff during the 90-day negotiation period for all other affected countries.

Trump’s move comes as dozens of nations seek talks with the U.S. amid global trade disruption and market turmoil sparked by the initial wave of sweeping tariff hikes.
