Valentine’s Day Sparks Flower Price Surge in Quezon City

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, flower enthusiasts and romantics are facing a steep rise in prices, marking a 100% increase in the cost of blooms. At the Farmers Garden in Araneta City, Cubao, Quezon City, the price adjustments have been particularly noticeable. A report by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB highlighted the significant surge, with a dozen red roses now fetching P1,500, up from the more affordable P700.

The price hike is not limited to roses alone. For those looking to express their affection with half a dozen red roses, the cost has doubled to P1,000 from P500. Sunflower lovers are also feeling the pinch, with a single sunflower’s price rising to P500 from P400, and a trio of sunflowers now setting buyers back P2,000, up from P1,300.

The assortment of bouquets available has seen a similar trend, with the price for an assorted bouquet escalating to P1,500 from P700, and special bouquets now priced at P2,000, doubling from the previous P1,000.

The vendors at Farmers Garden have attributed this sharp price increase to their suppliers at the Dangwa Flower Market in Manila, who have raised their prices in anticipation of the Valentine’s Day demand. Despite the initial slow sales observed on Sunday, three days before the holiday, expectations are set for a significant uptick in purchases as Valentine’s Day approaches, particularly on February 13, the eve of the celebration.

This year’s Valentine’s Day is proving to be an expensive affair for those looking to express their love through the timeless gesture of giving flowers, with prices reflecting the high demand and seasonal trends.
