Vivian Que-Azcona, Mercury Drug President, Passes Away at 69

MANILA — Vivian Que-Azcona, president of the iconic pharmacy chain Mercury Drug Corporation, has passed away at the age of 69, the company confirmed on Thursday evening.

In an official statement shared on social media, Mercury Drug announced, “With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved President. We kindly ask for your prayers for the eternal repose of her soul.”

The University of Santo Tomas (UST), Que-Azcona’s alma mater, also paid tribute to her, highlighting her legacy in healthcare and education. “Under her and her father Dr. Mariano Que’s leadership, Mercury Drug became a vital pillar in the pharmaceutical industry, helping save countless lives,” UST said in a statement.

The university also recognized her enduring contributions to Thomasian education through scholarship programs, training initiatives, and support for UST’s Faculty of Pharmacy.

Que-Azcona followed in the footsteps of her father, Mariano Que, the founder of Mercury Drug, who passed away in 2017 at the age of 96.

Her passing marks the end of an era for one of the Philippines’ most trusted and recognizable healthcare institutions.
