WFH Set Up Will Make BPO Sector More Competitive

According to the Chief Executive of Concentrix Philippines, the country’s business process outsourcing (BPO) industry will be more competitive if the work-from-home (WFH) scheme is supported.

Concentrix CEO and President Chris Caldwell have mentioned that he remains optimistic that the Philippine government would be more open to a WFH set-up as the main scheme for the local workforce.

“The Philippine government must seriously consider the implementation of WFH to be able to compete aggressively on a global scale,” says Caldwell.

“We have a feeling the different secretaries of the different departments are working together to solve this problem before September 12,” he adds.

Caldwell has mentioned that Central America, Latin America, and India experienced massive growth during the pandemic when lockdowns were implemented. “In fact, India is aggressively supporting WFH.”

He also adds that the BPO industry of the Philippines will continue to grow whether the scheme is 100% on-site or hybrid.

“The industry will grow but not as much as expected,” “As an industry, you need to be competitive to employ more people,” says Caldwell.

Improvements in broadband connection by Philippine telecom companies have better equipped Concentrix staff and other BPO firms to be more productive with the WFH scheme despite the challenges brought about by the extended pandemic lockdowns. On top of this, several BPO employees have mentioned the infamous Metro Manila traffic as a huge downside to returning to fully onsite schemes.

Caldwell has said that Concentrix’s expansion has made it the Philippines’ biggest private employer with an estimated 100,000 employees and with 50 total sites in the country.
