CCLEX Corp. (CCLEC), the operator of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), plans to invest ₱1 billion to construct an additional ramp that will connect the expressway to Cebu City’s central business district. The CCLEX is a significant thoroughfare linking the northern and southern parts of Cebu. “Cebu City is looking at reviving the Guadalupe ramp exit and entry,” explained CCLEX Corp. president and general manager Allan Alfon.

This extension project will span 2 kilometers, which is expected to accommodate an additional 10,000 to 12,000 vehicles on the expressway per day. “So, in effect, if that is realized, then [there will be] more tourists coming from the island,” Alfon added. “We are just waiting for the Cebu City government to come up with the ordinance.”

On a daily basis, approximately 12,500 vehicles pass through CCLEX generating ₱1 million to ₱1.4 million in gross revenues from toll collection. However, CCLEC aims to increase the traffic volume on the expressway to 20,000 per day by the end of the year. This, in turn, will raise its daily revenues to ₱2 million. Over the next two years, CCLEC hopes to accommodate over 40,000 vehicles per day.

Alfon also pointed out that several construction projects are being done in Cordova. Among these include a casino, a residential property, and a port. “We believe that this provides the sustainable volume for traffic to increase,” elaborated the CCLEC executive. “Once you have more constructions in Cordova and the island of Mactan, then we would have more motorists coming from Class 2 (buses, trucks, and cars with trailers) during the construction.” Class 1 vehicles, such as cars and vans, usually utilize the CCLEX.
