Ajinomoto Philippines Targets 50% Reduction in Environmental Footprint by 2030

MANILA – Ajinomoto Philippines Corp. (APC) is ramping up its sustainability efforts, aiming to cut its environmental impact by 50% by 2030, company officials announced.

Key Sustainability Initiatives

Eco-Friendly Packaging

  • APC has launched a paper-packaged version of its popular monosodium glutamate (MSG) product.
  • The company is eliminating plastic bags used to bundle sachet products, replacing them with paper bands to reduce plastic waste.

Renewable Energy Shift

  • APC’s Bulacan and Cebu factories are now 100% solar-powered through a partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions.
  • This initiative has prevented 5,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Food Waste Reduction

  • The company is upcycling food waste into animal feeds, cutting methane emissions.
  • Methane, a greenhouse gas, is 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide in short-term global warming effects, according to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Plastic Repurposing Program

  • Through its SariCycle program, APC is encouraging sari-sari stores to collect and recycle single-use plastics in exchange for rewards, helping improve local waste management.

Commitment to Sustainability

“Sustainability is an integral part of our corporate philosophy. We aim to drive meaningful change through responsible business practices and strategic partnerships,” said APC Chief Sustainability Officer Ernie Carlos.

As global companies face growing pressure to address climate change, Ajinomoto Philippines is taking proactive steps to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship.
