MANILA, Philippines — Positioning the country as a major player in the high-tech electronics supply chain, the government’s green industrial strategy has attracted intense international interest. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced that at least 50 foreign and local manufacturing firms have expressed keen interest in setting up operations within the Philippines’ newly designated Pax-Silica Hub.
The massive development, spearheaded by a multi-agency state task force, aims to turn local raw quartz deposits into high-value semiconductor components right on Philippine soil.
The Pax-Silica initiative marks a massive shift for the local electronics sector. Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual clarified during a business forum on Tuesday that the country is moving away from simply assembling imported parts and moving toward raw material processing:

The DTI expects the first wave of firm commitments to finalize before the end of the year, projecting an initial capital layout of roughly $1.2 billion for the first phase of construction.
With global tech firms aggressively seeking to diversify their manufacturing networks outside traditional hubs, trade officials emphasize that the Pax-Silica Hub provides a highly strategic, resource-secure alternative that will generate thousands of specialized engineering and manufacturing jobs for the local workforce over the next decade.
