Independent tower operator PhilTower Consortium Inc. plans to expand its digital infrastructure by constructing 1,000 telecommunications towers across the Philippines in 2025.
“This year is going to be tremendous in terms of tower builds, with all operators actively participating,” PhilTower President and CEO Devid Gubiani said in a chance interview. He noted strong commitments from Globe, Smart, and DITO, driving additional investments.
PhilTower has allocated nearly $150 million for capital expenditure to fund the tower rollout. Approximately 30-40% of the towers will be located in Visayas and Mindanao, as well as remote areas in North and South Luzon.
“This expansion addresses the very strong demand from mobile users, which we view as highly positive,” Gubiani added.
PhilTower, in partnership with MIESCOR Infrastructure Development Corp. (MIDC), currently manages a portfolio of 3,500 towers. The two firms have also partnered with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to improve digital connectivity in key BCDA areas, including Bonifacio Global City, New Clark City, and Morong Discovery Park.
BCDA President and CEO Joshua Bingcang highlighted the collaboration’s role in enhancing digital infrastructure: “This partnership aligns with our vision to create smart, future-ready urban centers and economic hubs.”
