MANILA, Philippines — West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) reported a robust financial performance for the first quarter of 2026, with net income rising by 10% to reach P4 billion. on April 28, 2026, the growth was primarily driven by increased water consumption across residential and commercial sectors, alongside successful service expansion projects.
The water utility, led by Metro Pacific Investments Corp. and DMCI Holdings, continues to benefit from a growing customer base and improved operational efficiencies.
Maynilad’s strong start to the year is attributed to several key factors:
- Revenue Growth: Total revenues saw a significant uptick as billed volume increased, fueled by the return of full-scale commercial activities and new connections in Cavite and Muntinlupa.
- Capital Expenditure (CapEx): The company invested heavily in its “Service Expansion Program,” focusing on pipelaying and the construction of new pumping stations to reach underserved areas.
- NRW Reduction: Efforts to curb Non-Revenue Water (NRW)—water lost to leaks or illegal connections—have started to yield better margins, allowing more water to reach paying customers.
To sustain this growth, Maynilad has fast-tracked several infrastructure projects:
- Poblacion Water Treatment Plant: The full operations of the Poblacion plant in Muntinlupa have augmented supply for the southern part of the West Zone, reducing reliance on Angat Dam.
- Modular Treatment Plants: The deployment of smaller, modular treatment plants has allowed the company to tap alternative water sources like rivers and brackish water.
- Pipe Replacement: Maynilad replaced over 50 kilometers of aging pipes in the first three months of 2026 alone, significantly improving water pressure in older districts like Manila and Quezon City.
Despite the positive earnings, Maynilad remains cautious about potential climate challenges:
- El Niño Preparedness: The company has allocated a portion of its profit toward climate-resiliency projects to ensure a steady supply should dam levels drop during the dry season.
- Sustainability Goals: Maynilad is increasing its use of solar energy for its treatment plants to lower operating costs and reduce its carbon footprint.
“Our first-quarter results reflect our commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction,” the company stated. “As we move further into 2026, our focus remains on ensuring water security for the millions of people we serve, while maintaining a healthy financial position to fund our multi-billion peso expansion plans.”
