SANTA ROSA, LAGUNA — SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SMPH), the integrated property giant led by the Sy family, has officially scheduled the grand opening of SM City Nuvali for the fourth quarter of 2026. The new mall will serve as a centerpiece of the fast-growing Nuvali eco-estate, further solidifying the region’s status as a primary economic hub south of Metro Manila.
The development marks SM Prime’s continued aggressive expansion into high-growth “suburban” corridors where residential and commercial demand is surging.
Aligned with the sustainability theme of the Nuvali estate, SM City Nuvali is being designed with several eco-friendly features:
- Sustainable Architecture: The mall will feature high-ceiling designs for natural ventilation, energy-efficient LED lighting systems, and expansive skylights to maximize natural day-lighting.
- Solar Power Integration: Similar to other recent SM Supermalls, the Nuvali branch will be equipped with a massive solar rooftop array to augment its energy requirements.
- Water Conservation: The facility will include a state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant (STP) and a rainwater catchment system to be used for mall maintenance and irrigation of surrounding landscapes.
The opening of SM City Nuvali is expected to be a major catalyst for the local economy in Santa Rosa and nearby Calamba:
- Job Creation: Thousands of jobs are expected to be generated, ranging from construction roles to retail, administrative, and service-sector positions once the mall is operational.
- Retail Mix: The mall will house the usual SM anchors—SM Store, SM Supermarket, and SM Appliance Center—alongside a curated mix of global fashion brands, local boutiques, and a wide array of dining options catering to the Nuvali community.
- Entertainment Hub: Plans include a multi-theater SM Cinema complex and an indoor park/leisure space, designed to serve the thousands of families living within the Ayala Land-developed estate.
The move into Nuvali is part of SM Prime’s broader strategy to tap into the “Rizal-Laguna-Cavite” (CALABARZON) growth engine. With the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) improving accessibility, the company anticipates a high volume of weekend “staycationers” and day-trippers from Metro Manila.
“Nuvali has matured into a premier residential and business district. Bringing the SM Supermall experience to this community is a logical step in our commitment to being where our customers are.” — SM Prime Representative
As construction reaches its peak in mid-2026, SM Prime is expected to hold “tenant preview” events to showcase the mall’s unique layout. The end-of-2026 opening is timed to capture the peak holiday spending season, ensuring a strong start for the mall’s retail partners.
